The Special Needs Awareness Police Program (SNAPP) is a voluntary program implemented by the Mokena Police Department to assist both residents with special/exceptional needs and their family members and anyone who regularly visits Mokena due to employment, education, daycare, etc.  The program was designed to help communicate individualized needs to first responders as well as assist our first responders during their efforts to modify their response and interactions during an emergency and/or crisis.  SNAPP is available to subjects with special/exceptional needs including but not limited to medical conditions, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, or any other developmental/intellectual disabilities.  Often, these conditions place individuals at a higher probability of interacting with first responders. SNAPP allows residents/visitors to voluntarily provide the Mokena Police Department with crucial information to be utilized in medical or other types of emergencies.  By having this information before an emergency occurs, the Mokena Police Department can proactively work to keep our community members safe.

The Mokena Police Department dispatch provider, Laraway Communications Center (911), also participates in the Premise Alert Program (PAP).  The PAP program allows dispatch centers to store special/exceptional needs information for specific addresses. This information can quickly be disseminated to first responders in the event they are requested to the address provided.
