The Village of Mokena, a thriving suburban community located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago in northeastern Will County, is seeking a skilled and experienced professional to serve as Streets and Buildings Superintendent. Mokena, with a population of 19,887, is known for its family-oriented atmosphere, excellent municipal services, and outstanding schools and parks.

This position involves skilled management and supervisory responsibilities in overseeing the operations of the Streets, Buildings and Grounds, and Vehicle Maintenance Departments. Reporting to the Public Works Director and Assistant Public Works Director, the superintendent manages departmental activities, supervises personnel, ensures compliance with safety standards, and enforces performance standards. The role requires directing the maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, buildings, grounds, and vehicles while ensuring that departmental services meet the needs and expectations of the Village.

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED, with eight to ten years of experience and training in a public works-related field. Supervisory experience is essential, with preference given to candidates who have some college education or additional public works training equivalent to one year of college. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are critical, as is the ability to interpret and implement Village policies, manage budgets, and coordinate work across departments.

The Streets and Buildings Superintendent must be capable of overseeing the operation of construction and maintenance equipment, managing snow removal, street repairs, drainage system maintenance, and grounds upkeep. The successful candidate will have a valid Illinois Driver's License and demonstrate a strong understanding of construction tools, materials, safety standards, and equipment operation.

The Village of Mokena offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, along with an excellent benefits package.
