Village of Mokena Seniors receive....

Senior Refuse Discount
Registered seniors are eligible to receive a discount of $0.86 per month on the refuse portion of their utility bill.  In order to receive the discount, one of the homeowners must be at least 65 years of age or better. 

Seniors can simply look at the refuse rate on their water bill to see if they are receiving the discount.  Seniors currently receiving the discount pay $16.74 for refuse on a single family home or $14.81 for a townhome.

Discount forms are available at the Mokena Village Hall.  Seniors may come in person, call (708) 479-3900 and request the form by mail, or download the form by clicking here.  Once downloaded, you may bring the form to the Village Hall, or mail it back.  If utilizing the mail option, a drivers license copy must accompany the completed form.

Visit Senior Services of Will County to take advantage of many opportunities for Seniors.  

Will County Treasurer Steve Weber encourages eligible senior citizens to obtain property tax relief through the Senior Citizens Real Estate Property Tax Deferral Program.  This State of Illinois program allows seniors to defer payment of property taxes on their principal residences.

The Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago Street in Joliet, is open Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Brementowne Manor Affordable Senior Housing Waiting List to Open
Beginning on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, Brementowne Manor Apartments in Tinley Park will begin distributing application information packets to persons interested in placing their names on the facility's waiting list.

Brementowne Manor is a federally-subsidized apartment complex which provides affordable housing to low-income senior citizens and persons with mobility impairments.  Applicants for the housing for senior citizens must be at least 62 years of age.  All applicants must have a total annual income of less than $26,950 (one person) or $30,800 (two persons).  A full description of eligibility restrictions and other detailed information about Brementowne Manor is contained in the application packet.  All apartments are one bedroom.  Rents are subsidized under the HUD Section 8 Rental Assistance program.  Under this program, tenants pay a monthly rent equal to 30% of their monthly income, after adjustments for medical expenses.

Application packets may be picked up in person weekdays between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm at Brementowne Manor, 16130 S. Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477.

Application packets will also be mailed out upon request.  Interested persons may call (708) 429-4088 during the same hours to request a packet.

When completed, the required forms must be submitted in person by the applicant at an application interview, or by mail.  Interviews are by appointment only.  Information about scheduling application submission interviews as well as other detailed instructions for completing the application forms can be found in the application packet.  Unfortunately, due to the anticipated demand, tours of the facility will not be available.

The application period will remain open until at least 90 names have been added to the current waiting list.

Brementowne Manor is a private, non-profit corporation which is affiliated with the Mennonite Church.  A volunteer Board of Directors composed of church members and local community residents provides policy direction and financial supervision for the project.  Operating rules and procedures are established and monitored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
