The Mokena Water Department flushes water mains in the spring and fall each year. This is done to remove the iron sediment from the bottom of the distribution system. When you see a sign posted in your neighborhood informing you that hydrant flushing will be taking place on the following day, postpone doing laundry until the flushing is complete. This will prevent the possibility of discolored water ruining your clothes. Hydrant flushing schedules are also published in local newspapers, on the Mokena Channel 6 Cable message board and on the night service phone message.
